Art in Our Schools
Approximately 25-30 years ago, the Greeneville Arts Council instituted a practice of annual gift giving to all the High School Art Departments in Greene County. This came about when a local artist and board member volunteered to speak at a county school about life as a working artist, and came back to the board expressing concern that within the school budget for art, there was not enough money to buy art supplies. To be blunt, the kids were drawing on cardboard boxes.
Since then, some high school art teachers have used that money to take their kids on art related field trips, additional art educational experiences, or purchase a must needed big ticket item like a replacement clay extruder. And, hopefully also needed classroom materials.
